Champions Crowned at Season Finale
September 27, Winchester, NH--- Open Competition brings out
the best in the home track racers along with some of the best from other area
tracks. Sportmen Modifieds would add #04 of Joey Jarvis, #00 of Tommy Membrino,
#1x of Aaron Fellows, #91 Robert Hagar, #13 of Josh White, #8 Corey Larson, #7x
of Scott McMichaels, and #57 of Steve Gauthier would debut a new ride to join in
the battle for a 50 lap feature event. Mini Stocks would see Matthew Sonnhalter,
a 14 year old racer from Canaan Fair Speedway, along with #42 of Loren Smith
Jr., and first time out for Scott Fournier. Super Stocks would welcome #17 of
Russ Downing, Craig Cashman in his #88, Scott Zilinski #14, 13 year old Austin
Brehio in car #11, Geoff Rollins dusted off his #02, and 2009 series champion #3
Jeremy Sorel would be in action tonight.
Young Guns began feature events taking to the track for fifteen lap feature.
They would try to get going but #9 of Matt Parmenter would impact the wall on
the backstretch ending his night and letting the caution wave for the first lap.
They would stay green until lap seven when Scott Betourney would get into turn 4
too hot and spin. Andrew Martel in his #18 would be your winner. Martel is a
competitor at both Canaan and Twinstate Speedways and ripe old age of 13 years.
Hillary Renuad would be in for second to cap off a great season for her and her
team. Cordell Colon in third place has found some consistency after tough starts
in the first part of the season. All of the Young Gun Racers were introduced by
name and age post race and rounds of applause from the fans.
Mini Stocks would begin with 20 cars to compete in 35 laps of excitement. Kim
Rivet would take the early lead pursued by 87 of Beth Adams, who would take the
top spot on lap 3. Rubbing and bumping would cut down the right rear tire of 16
Chris Davis looping him around in turn two and bringing out the caution of lap
seven. Davis would make the quick tire change and return to competition. On the
restart the pace would be set by Adams, followed by Rivet then 13 of Joey
Kendall, 45 of Eric Dejackome and 71 of Eric Pomasko. Caution waived on lap nine
for a spin by 89 of Shawna Wallace. Kendall would move up to the second spot and
ready to challenge Adams. Caution would be displayed for a spin by #9 of Rick
Abbott. On lap sixteen Kendall would pass Adams for the lead and never look back
taking win seven on the season for him. Adams in strong for second with Rivet
for third, Dejackome for fourth, and #16 of Davis would battle back finishing
fifth. The season would belong to Mini Stock Champion #16 of Chris Davis who
vowed to return to competition next season with the goal of more wins.
Allison Legacy Tour were next to race hard for their 25 lap feature. A red flag
would be displayed on the track nearing the completion of lap one when the #26
spins in turn two and laid across the back straight away when #2, with no place
to go, hit him with hard impact. Both drivers walked away with no injuries due
to the safety of these cars. They would not get a restart off when #5 of Nate
Johnson gets into the back of the 87 spinning him around. Once racing resumed it
would be 44 of James Logan that would dominate and get the victory. Kyle Poodiak
would finish second with ACT (American-Canadian Tour) competitor, and first time
in a Legacy car, #98 of Nick Sweet in for third. Sweet is a regular racer at
Thunder Road.
New England Race Trucks would compete green to checkers in 20 laps. Gee Perry in
his #83 truck would get out to the lead early and thats exactly where he would
finish. Greg Bulter's #85 in for second and Willie Auchmoody's #16 took third.
Series point leader #3 of Andy Lindeman was fourth and Derek Chris #12 for fifth
place.
Spectator's Race saw truck versus truck, Dodge versus Chevy versus Ford and even
a mix of Mazda, Saab and Honda as the heats would eliminate one by one. The
final race pitted two trucks against a Ford Taurus SHO. The trucks would get out
front right off the start, but patience and handling would prove to pay off for
a regular 4 cylinder enduro competitor Matt Gauffin took the lead in turn 3 and
came out the winner.
Super Stocks were next for 35 laps to end their regular season, also boasting a
20 plus car count. Not sure if drivers were just anxious or itchy to get the
best spot for the last race. The #7 of Joe Bates would get whipped around at the
start of lap one. With the field reset, the action would begin as caution would
fly on lap two when the #88 of Craig Cashman and #54 of Nick Gravel got together
in turn one. Racing would get back under way until lap fifteen when the 45 of Ed
Lafond and #7 of Bates got together sending the #45 around and penalizing the #7
to start in the rear. Fans would jump to their feet when 03 of Andy Brooks Jr
slid up coming out of turn four catching several cars resulting in red flagging
this event on lap eighteen. The victims were 03 of Brooks, 33 of John Lavoie, 7
of Bates, 45 of Lafond, 11 X of Austin Brehio, and getting the worst of the deal
was #14 of Scott Zilinski who was cradled off the track. The #11x of Nick Boivin
and #37 of Bill Johnston would show the true meaning of rubbing is racing as
Boivin secured the top spot. The same would happen between Johnston and Geoff
Rollins' #02, but Rollins, who seemed to have the car to beat, looses a right
front tire in the exchange and spins in turn two. When the checkered waved it
would be Boivin, Johnston, #3 of Jeremy Sorel, #44 of Brian Chapin and 18C of
Chris Curtis. Johnston would burn up the back stretch celebrating his track
championship for the 2010 season.
Pro 4 Modifieds would set the pace for open wheel cars to be followed by their
larger cars later. On lap one #86 of Mark Charrette and #99 of Billy Joerres get
together in turn two and both are towed away. The restart of lap one saw it go
from green to a red flag when #83 of Frank Perry wiggles on the take off
collecting #10 of Brian Vincent, 07x of Robin Berghman, 07 Phil Lausier, 1M of
Norman Wrenn and Perry. Third time's a charm for lap one as #01 of Adam Norton
takes the lead on the restart and jumps out front. A caution flag turned into a
red flag on lap nineteen when #60 of Andy Major and #12 of Rob Richardi JR get
together in turn two hitting the backstretch wall hard while battling for second
and third position. The win would go to Norton followed by Tyler Anderson in the
#25 and on the podium for third, fighting his way back through the field after a
lap one wreck, was Norm Wrenn.
Sportmen Modifieds were next for 50 laps of what is always edge of your seat
action. Caution on lap three for a spin by the #04 of Joey Jarvis in turn four,
collecting #10 of Heather Desrochers. A caution flies again on lap seven when
#00 of Tommy Membrino spins. Also involved where the #0 of Jeff Wright, #74 of
Victoria Bergenty, and #8 of Corey Larson. On the restart Boivin would have the
lead followed by #43 of Bill Kimball, #52 of Ricky Labreque, #1 of Aaron Fellows
and #88 of Russ Hersey. Another caution on lap eleven when Bergenty loops her
car on the front stretch. A caution on lap thirteen when the #2 of Dave Knight
and #44 of Jeff Moore spin and track crews were summoned for fluid on the track.
A single file restart puts #1x of Fellows in front, then #1 of Boivin, #88 of
Hersey, #43 of Kimball and #52 of Labreque as your top five. Getting ready to
restart it is waived off when #2 of Knight is seen sitting in turn two with a
broken steering rack as the cause. On the start #0 of Wright hit the front
stretch wall. On the restart, Fellows has the lead but sustains a right rear
tire blow out and spins in turn two gibing Boivin the lead. Hersey, in second,
would try the bottom, the top, and the middle but would not be able to get past
Boivin who would take his second victory of the night. Hersey would settle for
second and Fellows in for third place. Division champion Bill Kimball would
celebrate in back stretch grass. Kimball and Boivin both say they will be back
to this division next season.
Great School Bus Race was next for 10 laps, and would be won tonight by Sportmen
Modified Champion Bill Kimball. He would be followed by Super Street Champion
Bill Johnston, Outlaw Pro Champion Barry Gray, and Mini Stock Champion Chris
Davis. Tour Type Modified Champion Kirk Alexander had to pull out after problems
with his bus.
Full Size Enduro came out for 50 laps and had many new comers, most from Canaan
Speedway. The event winner was 79 of Ryan Rivet on the last lap. Duane Stonier
would be crowned Full Size Champion.
Four Cylinder Enduro's 50 laps would also show more than a full field, but when
all was said and done Toby Wells in the #2 was the event winner and Julia
Raymond's #162 would be crowned Four Cylinder Enduro Champion. It seems to run
in the family for Julia, as she was seen taking photos with dad Chris Raymond
and many time track champion grandfather Roger Raymond.
