When the green flag dropped it was the #2 of Rich Pallai Jr. taking the lead. Pallai lasted only a lap in the lead. Taking the lead from him was Todd Owen in the #90 machine. Owen wasn’t able to walk away from the field though. The caution flag flew on lap two and lap three. When the green flag came back out it was Owen holding down the lead.
As this was going on, I noticed that Pallai was having his best run of the season. And to note he is only a rookie this season in the SK Modifieds.
As Pallai was having his bursts of power the #51 of Zach Sylvester and the #52 of Woody Pitkat were making their way up to the front. Pallai didn’t last too long because Sylvester had the stronger car. Sylvester was able to get around both Pallai and Owen. Sylvester was able to lead for a short time. On lap ten the caution flag flew again. That was great news for Pitkat. Pitkat was able to gain the lead on the restart.
What I found interesting during this race was that most of the passes for the lead and throughout the field was on the out side.
Once Pitkat was in the lead, I thought that he would be walking away from the field. But Sylvester was right there on his tail. As time went on though Pitkat slowly started to walk away. When the checker flag flew it was Pitkat taking down the win. And might I note that this was his fifth straight win.
Then there was the Late Models. Let me just say this before I get into details about this class; I found this class to be a interesting class to follow and a class that the SK’s can learn from. That all changed this past Friday.
Jumping into the lead was the #64 of Michael Bennett. For two laps Bennett was able to pull away from the field. But due to a lap two caution it put Bennett in the line of fire. When the green came back out Scott Cook in the #99 started to challenge Bennett for the lead. As Bennett held a slim the lead, the #92 of Tom Fearn was on a mission. On lap eight the caution flag flew again. At this time Fearn was running in the second position. On the restart the field was running two by two. By lap thirteen Fearn captured the lead. As the race went on there were even more caution flags flown and very few battles. When the race was finally over it was Fearn taking down the feature win.
And I think that during the race there were more yellow flag laps completed than actual (30) green flag laps completed.
In the SK Lights it was Michael Lane in the #20 taking the lead early. On lap two the first yellow flag flew. On the restart it was the #7 of Aaron Goff taking the lead away. Making his way through the field with a really fast machine was the #16 of Josh Sylvester. Sylvester was able to take the lead on lap five.
As the race went on the caution flag became a common thing in the race. Does that sound familiar from another feature event? And due to the fact that the SK Lights have a time limit the race was shortened to only eleven laps. The win was given to Josh Sylvester.
The Limited Late Models it was it was “Rush Hour” Rick Lanagan taking down the feature win.
Rounding out the night was the D.A.R.E Stocks. Taking down the win was Duane Provost in the #88 machine.
Hopefully, next week, there will be more racing and less of a demolition derby at Stafford Motor Speedway.
