PRESENT---

July 28-Westfield, MA--- Before I start talking about this weeks events, I have to mention the make up Late Model event from July 13th.

The race picked up right where it was stopped, at lap two. Leading at that moment was the #4 of Tom Butler. Right on Butler’s tail though was Woody Pitkat in the #48 machine. Pitkat was able to take the lead on lap three. Once he was in the lead he started to walk away from the field. As Pitkat was walking away from the field, everyone else was trying to sort out into position. Making his presence known in the field like usual was the #17 of Jim Peterson. By lap fifteen the field had become single file racing.

As a writer and a fan, I can’t stand watching races that go like this. Another thing that I didn’t care for in this make-up event was how Pitkat was able to walk away with the event. The only time that other competitors stood a chance to challenge for the lead was on one of the three restarts. When all was said and done it was Woody Pitkat taking down the win.

Now to the regular Friday scheduled event.

The SK Modifieds were back to running their forty lap event this week. Jumping out to quick lead was the #7 of Willie Hardie. As Hardie jumped to the lead, the rest of the pack was battling for position. By lap five the first caution flag flew on the track. This wasn’t good news for Hardie because this put the #52 of Woody Pitkat right on his tail. After six laps of challenging Pitkat was finally able to get passed Hardie for the lead. Hardie though didn’t just sit back when this happened. He stood right on Pitkat’s tail and challenged whenever he had the chance. As the race went on the field started to race in single file form. But Pitkat was able to hold Hardie and TC Ted Christopher for the lead and the feature win.

In the Late Models it was the #14 of Rich Charette taking the lead at the drop of the green. Looking to take the lead from Charette was Scott Foster Jr. in the #44 machine. After battling for a few laps Foster was able to take the lead on lap eight. Foster didn’t stay in the lead all that long because the #4 of Tom Butler wanted to see what it was like to lead. Butler took the lead on lap nine from Foster. Then on lap ten Ryan Posocco in the #3 took the lead. Yes, within three laps there were three different leaders. The only reason there wasn’t a fourth different leader on lap eleven was due to the fact that there was a caution on the racing surface, which made it interesting. Why you ask? Well, Posocco was leading and running in second was Woody Pitkat in the #48. Even though Pitkat had the car to beat in the first feature event, he had nothing for Posocco. And watching that battle, Pitkat knew he didn’t have any chance. Posocco went on to take down the win in the regular Late Model event.

During the make up event they must just have been trying to save their equipment. Well, everyone except for Pitkat, who used up everything in the first event.

During the SK Lights, they saw the #32 of Chris Bakaj take the lead early on. Unlike with the other divisions, he wasn’t able to pull out to a good sized lead. As the race went on, some of the best battles were in the back of the field. When that was happening, the #09 of Raymond Grassetti was trying to take the lead from Bakaj. Grassetti just didn’t have the power to get around Bakaj. As the race went on it looked like it was going to be Bakaj taking down the win. But a late charge from the #17 of Glen Reen changed that. Reen was able to take the lead on a lap twelve restart. Reen was able to on and take down the win.

In the Limited Late Models it was the #29 of Rick Lanagan holding off a hard charging field to visit victory lane.

And lastly in the D.A.R.E Stocks it was Kyle Nosal taking down the feature win.
